NSW Moved Toward Medical Cannabis Driving Laws

NSW parliament moved closer to changing driving laws for medicinal cannabis patients after Sydney MP Alex Greenwich introduced a motion to create a legal defence for prescribed users.

Greenwich had recently revealed he used medicinal cannabis to treat post-traumatic stress disorder, bringing national attention to the issue many patients faced — testing positive despite not being impaired.

The proposal aimed to protect lawful patients from automatic penalties while maintaining road safety standards, signalling a potential shift in how Australia balanced public safety with medical treatment.
